The Schorah family originated in the Leeds area of Yorkshire. The first reference I have found is Anthony and Mary  SCHORAH who had a son Josiah in 1819. Anthony was a Mason. Mary was born in 1783 (approx.) in Stanley, Yorkshire, but I have no further information about the origin of Anthony.

Josiah SCHORAH married Hannah DIXON at the Parish Church, Leeds on 8 June 1840, his profession was given as a Hairdresser.

Sarah Schorah Born 1841 in Leeds, died 1859 in Liverpool.
Mary Schorah Born 1844 in West Ardsley, Yorkshire.
James Schorah Born 1849 in Leeds.
John Schorah Born 1850 in Leeds, married Elizabeth Poole in 1867 and died 1881 in Liverpool.
Joseph Ellis Schorah  Born 1852 in Leeds, emigrated in 1872 to Delaware or New Jersey, married Mary Coleman in about 1876 and died 1928 in Newcastle, Delaware.
George Anthony Schorah  Born 1855 in Liverpool, married Francis Quinn in 1873 and died in Liverpool in 1908.
Benjamin Spence Schorah Born 10 February 1860 in Liverpool, emigrated to the USA in 1880.
Sarah Schorah Born 16 June 1862 in Liverpool, died 1881 in Liverpool.
Henrietta Schorah Born 4 March 1864 in Liverpool, married James MacDonald in 1886.

Josiah Hannah and Mary Schorah are shown on the 1841 census as living in West Street, Leeds and was described as a 'Hair Dresser'. Pigots Directory of the same year gives the address as 112 West Street.

Mary Schorah died between 1851 and 1861.

Josiah and Hannah Schorah are shown on the 1851 census as living at 109 West Street, Leeds and described as an 'Ironmonger'.
White's Directory of 1854 also shows him as an Ironmonger and Hairdresser at 109 West Street Leeds.

Josiah Schorah appears to have gone bankrupt in 1852, and was for a time in York Gaol, The family subsequently moved to Liverpool, the exact date is not known although is was between then and 1855. 

Josiah and Hannah Schorah have not been located on the 1861 census

Hannah Schorah died in 1866 in Liverpool aged 44.

Josiah Schorah married Emma Garner on July 14 1867 at the Parish Church of St Oswald, Chester. Emma Garner appears to have been the daughter of James Dickson and Mary Garner (nee Selbey) and was born on 10 April 1833 at Doddington, Cambridge.

Sidney Herbert SCHORAH Born  8 July 1871, married Louisa Mary Powell in 1896
Emma SCHORAH Born 27 March 1873 at 61 Moorfields, Liverpool, married Arthur Grunnill 18 December 1898
Josiah Carloss SCHORAH Born  1878 in Liverpool, married Jane Cain in 1893.

Josiah and Emma Schorah are shown on the 1871 Census as living at 61 Moorfields, Liverpool and Josiah is described as a 'Eating House Keeper and Emigration Agent'. (Benjamin, Sarah, Henrietta and Annie are shown as living at Slade End, Chatteris, Cambs.)

Josiah Emma and Emma Schorah are shown on the 1881 Census as living at 61 Moorfields, Liverpool and Josiah is described as a 'Eating House Keeper and Emigration Agent'.

Emma Schorah died in Liverpool in 1889.

Josiah and Emma Schorah are shown on the 1891 Census as living at 2 Court House Street, Liverpool with his daughter Annie D Schorah, Josiah is described as a 'Passenger Agent' and Emma as a 'Lifebelt Maker'

Emma Schorah married Arthur Grunnill on 18 December 1898 at St Ambrose Church, Walton on the Hill, Liverpool. He was described as a 'Carter' and Josiah Schorah as a 'Hairdresser'

Josiah Schorah is shown on the 1891 Census as living at 167A Rose Hill, Liverpool with his daughter Annie D Evans (nee Schorah). No occupation is shown.

Josiah Schorah died in 1903
